Significance

These are deep water collections with complete locality and habitat data. They are in excellent condition and well preserved and in excellent condition. Most specimens will be amenable to molecular analysis.

Collection Location and Dates

Material collected off the coast of Oregon (R/V Ronald H. Brown (NOAA) and S/V ROPOS), July 4-11, 2001. Collections come from 74-657 m depth.

Taxonomic Contents

Emphasis of collection is on mollusks and echinoderms, but most other invertebrate taxa also well represented.

Description of Collection

This is a wet preserved collection. Molluscs are in the 3rd floor malacology offices. The bulk of the collection was fixed and preserved in 95% ethanol. A few lots were initially preserved in formalin then transferred to 85% ethanol. All remaining material (ca. 180 lots) is located in the Polychaete Collection Range (LACM basement).

Echinoderms (51 lots); polychaetes (26 lots); crustaceans (23 lots); mollusks (9 lots); sponges (21 lots); cnidarians (22 lots); urochordates (12 lots); sipunculids (9 lots); ectoprocts (3 lots); pycnogonids (2 lots); brachiopods (1 lot); miscellaneous taxa (1 lot).
