MBC

Significance

An Antarctic Peninsula SCUBA diving Expedition organized and led by Dr. Jeffrey Bozanic, 22–28 February 2026 from which eleven (11) stations were sampled for invertebrates.

Background

Specimens were hand carried back the NHM by Dr. Tania Pineda, Collections Manager Echinoderms, who was on the expedition as ship board support. Specimens were dispersed to Crustacea, Echinoderms, Malacology, Polychaetes and the Marine Biodiversity Center (MBC). Specimen data for material retained in the MBC is recorded in the MBC DB.

Collection Location and Dates

Antarctica, all stations have latitude and longitude. Material was collected between 22-28 February 2026.

Taxonomic Contents

invertebrates: sponges to chordates. A few incidental fish were collected and transferred to Fishes.

fixed in 70% ethanol, ethanol drained for flight, rehoused in 95% ethanol upon arrival in Los Angeles

Collection Inventory

roughly 86 lots of invertebrates, excluding mollusks, echinoderms, crustaceans are databased in the MBC database. Total number of lots returned to NHM is not known.
