Part of the DISCO project involves elucidating which species of marine invertebrates that are actually in the Southern California area. To do that, we sometimes request that collaborators and volunteers look for certain animals and let us know about them.
The pages linked below list some of the information helpful to pinpointing some of the “problems” we are trying to resolve. If you can help us, we would very much like to hear from you. For target species:
- Please let us know exactly where you may have found them.
- Photographs are great.
- Collecting specimens can only be done with an appropriate California Scientific Collecting Permit. Please let us know if collecting might be possible, and we will work with you to make sure that any collecting is done legally and with appropriate techniques and preservation to maximize scientific value.
