Atlantic Muck
The Atlantic Muck is an informal designation for late Pleistocene and Holocene deposits outcropping in the vicinity of Colon, in Colon Province, Panama. These deposits range from black organic-rich mud (muck) and lignite to coarse unconsolidated sand, rich in coral debris and fossil molluscs. These sediments and their fossils point to deposition in quite variable coastal habitats, including swamps, subtidal seagrass beds, and coral reefs.
