Phacoides pectinatus (Gmelin, 1791)

Thick lucine

Description: Circular and large, with distinctive radial groove that extends from the umbo to the shell margin where it forms a small notch. Sculpture of widely spaced, but narrow com marginal ridges or growth lines. Exterior and interior white, sometimes with yellowish margin.

Size: 50-60 mm.

Ecology: Estuarine to shallow sub-tidal sand and mud flats.

Geological range: Pliocene-Recent (5-0 million years ago).

Geographic distribution: Caribbean, Florida.
