Chlamys anapleus

Chlamys anapleus Woodring, Bramlette and Kew, 1946

 

Description: Shell is taller than wide, with anterior auricles larger than those of the posterior, and a moderately deep byssal notch. Sculpture of 10 or 11 wide primary ribs, and a weak secondary riblet in most of the interspaces.

Size: 20-25 mm.

Ecology: Epifaunal and attached on coarse sediment or hard substrates on the continental shelf (0-200 m of water depth).

Geological range: Extinct; Pleistocene (2-0.01 million years ago).

Geographic distribution: Southern California. Reported form the Lomita Marl (Pleistocene, California) and San Pedro Sand (Pleistocene, California).
