Cyclopecten incongruus (Dall, 1916)

Description: The shell has a round shape, but is sometimes higher than wide. Sculpture comprises widely spaced commarginal lirae (lines) crossed by thin radial lirae, which sometimes form imbricated scales or pustules where they intersect. The anterior auricle of the right valve has 2-5 radial ribs and the byssal notch is shallow and rounded.

Size: 10-15 mm.

Ecology: Epifaunal and attached on sandy mud in deep water or the bathyal (>400 m of water depth).

Geological range: Late Pliocene-Recent (4-0 million years ago).

Geographic distribution: Washington (49°N) to Baja California, México (29°N). Reported from the Pico Formation (Pliocene-Pleistocene, California) and Lomita Marl (Pleistocene, California).
