Description: Shell shape is oval, inequilateral, and inflated. Sculpture comprises radial ribs, which may bifurcate, and fine commarginal lirae. Hinge plate is narrow.

Size: 5-10 mm.

Ecology: Semi-infaunal on fine sediment from the intertidal to outer shelf (0-200 m).

Geological range: Pliocene-Recent (5-0 million years ago).

Geographic distribution: Alaska (71°N) to Peru (4°S), western Atlantic (North Carolina to Caribbean), and northwestern Pacific (Japan and Kamchatka). Reported from the Pico Formation (Pliocene-Pleistocene, California), Lomita Marl (Pleistocene, California), and San Pedro Sand (Pleistocene, California).
