Phylotypic stage
- (Taxon-specific: Subclass Copepoda) The stage of development, relative to other stages, that has diverged least during the evolutionary history of a monophyletic group of organisms. The phylotypic stage of copepods is the first copepodid. [Ferrari and Dahms, in press]
