Protogynous
- Hermaphrodites that function as females before males. [Butler, T. H.]
- Hermaphroditic condition with female elements maturing and being released before maturation of male elements. [McLaughlin, 1980]
- Used of hermaphroditism when the functional female precedes the male stage. [Holdich and Jones, 1983]
- (Taxon-specific: Order Isopoda) In hermaphroditic forms, becoming a functional female producing eggs before becoming a functional male producing spermatozoa. [Kensley and Schotte, 1989]
- (Taxon-specific: Order Isopoda) In sequential hermaphroditic forms, becoming a functional female (producing eggs) before become a functional male (producing spermatozoa). [Wetzer et al. 1997]
