A combination of projects and groups within Research and Collections at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County overlap considerably in their use of space and personnel. All are involved in one way or another with the investigation and discovery of biodiversity.
The Marine Biodiversity Center is the NHM’s core facility for the curation of marine invertebrates. The group has several staff members, employs numerous work-study students (primarily from the University of Southern California) and hosts an array of volunteers.
The Collaboratory is a collaborative research space intended to serve as a venue for interinstitutional and interdisciplinary collaboration. It is directly adjacent to the Marine Biodiversity Center, and is overseen by MBC staff.
