Cardiomya pectinata Carpenter, 1864

 

Description: Shell shape is inequilateral, with a long posterior margin and straight or slightly curved rostrum, and a rounded anterior margin. Sculpture comprises 12-24 well-spaced radial ribs and faint commarginal striae (fine ribs).

Size: 10-15 mm.

Ecology: Shallow infaunal predatory carnivore (of microfauna) in nearshore to the bathyal zones (5-1000 m of water depth) in sandy and muddy soft-bottom substrates.

Geological range: Pliocene to Recent (5-0 million years ago)

Geographic distribution: Alaska to Ecuador (61°N-2°S). Reported from the Timms Point Silt (Pleistocene) of California.
